Dollycas’s Thoughts
A new amateur sleuth hits the cozy scene. Joni Harte, fresh out of college, moves to Ogallala to start her journalism career. Her stories this week will resolve around the county fair. Parades, carnival rides, kids with their sheep and cows, fried foods, a beauty contest, just general fair stuff. That is until murder is added to the fair’s fare. Joni finds herself asking the right questions to the wrong people and may end up paying more than her fair share.
Annette Drake squeezes one heck of mystery into 100 pages. The synopsis call the inhabitants of this Missouri town “quirky”, well they are that and then some. A few are totally off their rocker. The dialogue is was fantastic and fun.
The story does include quite a bit of humor but their are suspenseful moments too. Pretzel like twists kept me guessing but I figured out a little bit before Jodie did.
I think this series is off to a great start. I look forward to more stories about Jodie and her family and the residents of Ogallala.
